Clagnut

Carousing with celebs

Gaz Combes, he of Supergrass fame, lives just around the corner from me. So when, the other Sunday, we both turned up at my local, it was not really a surprise. But what is the etiquette in this situation?

Here he is: a neighbour, but also the lead singer of a rock band. One is torn between a polite discrete greeting and “Wow! You’re my favourite band! I’ve got all your records! Can I have your autograph? When does your new album come out? Blah blah”.

After all, like me he was just down the pub for Sunday lunch with his girlfriend and her parents (not very rock n’ roll).

I opted for a friendly Hello. I believe it was best for both of us (even if I do have all his records).

    Excellent.

Question: How did you know it was his girlfriends parents and not his own?

Answer: they didn’t have humongous sideys.

My friend Sev, who is visiting from France at the mo, had a drink with Gaz’s brother.

    so there.
