What a couple of days it’s been for Champions League football. Last night Deportivo La Corua somehow overturned a 4–1 away loss in the San Siro to beat the holders AC Milan 4–0, fantastically winning 5–4 on aggregate. The day before, Monaco turned around a 4–2 defeat to beat Real Madrid 3–1 at home and go through on away goals. But most importantly Chelsea (come on you Blues!) finally beat Arsenal 2–1 after 17 previous attempts, and are now in the semi-finals for the first time in their history.
Quite how one gets emotionally attached to something as intangible as a football team I don’t know, but when Bridger sealed the win with his goal 3 minutes from time I was whirling around like a dervish, veins coursing with adrenalin and endorphins. At the final whistle I was straight on the phone to my brother, grins a mile wide and tears in our eyes. Pathetic isn’t it? But what a buzz…

It’s ‘Bridge’.
I was very happy for Ranieri, he deserves some success.

It was a surprising week indeed. Three surprise upsets!
Really sad about Madrid. I had high hopes.
Deportivo is not exactly the spanish team one was hoping in the Champions League semis. Great win…people will talk about this for some time to come.
Chelsea! OMG! What a humbling experience for the Arsenal team. I think calls for greatness were a bit premature. I mean really what have they really won yet? Henry scores goals by the bucketful in the EPL but what happens in European matches? (BTW did you see his goal against Liverpool!? Just awesome! Awesome!)
I think Ranieri and (deservedly so) will succeed in Champions League. His raw emotions at the end of the game with Arsenal showed how much he cares.
