Our charity ride from John o’Groats to Land’s End begins. We made a diversion via Dunnet Head to take in the most northerly point of GB. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but made for a hard opening day due to fierce crosswinds early on, and wet conditions with a 25mph block headwind (gusting in excess of 40mph) in the afternoon. By the end we were occasionally riding along at a mere 6mph, so we ended up cutting the day short by 8 miles (we’ll add it on tomorrow).
That all said, a stop for a wee dram at the Pulteney Distillery in Wick cheered things up nicely.
