JOGLE Day 01 – John o’Groats to Ousdale via Dunnet Head

Me, Mike and Darren in our charity cycle gear below the John o’Groats signpost showing 874 miles to Lands End

Our charity ride from John o’Groats to Land’s End begins. We made a diversion via Dunnet Head to take in the most northerly point of GB. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but made for a hard opening day due to fierce crosswinds early on, and wet conditions with a 25mph block headwind (gusting in excess of 40mph) in the afternoon. By the end we were occasionally riding along at a mere 6mph, so we ended up cutting the day short by 8 miles (we’ll add it on tomorrow).

That all said, a stop for a wee dram at the Pulteney Distillery in Wick cheered things up nicely.
