As noted by Zeldman a few days ago, there is a strange absence of data about the web design industry. People who make websites have been at it for more than a dozen years, yet almost nothing is known, statistically, about our profession. The good folk at A List Apart have set about trying to change that, and the result is the Web Design Survey. If you’re a web designer of any description, you should fill it out – it only took me a few minutes to do so.

I took it and was disappointed because it’s 100% focused on people who work for others as opposed to those who do freelance, run consulting firms, or run their own web company. Over half of the answers didn’t apply to me. Paid vacation? What, I get vacation?

mskb: funny you should say that. I thought the survey was really aimed at freelancers, and there was a bunch of stuff that didn’t apply to me as an employee and business owner.
Perhaps given our two opinions, the survey was in fact aimed at both situations.
Oh, and I recommend you some vacation – it’s the best cure for cynicism.
