¶ Netscape’s DevEdge developers’ site, once home to the likes of Eric Meyer, seems to be incommunicado. Anyone know if it’s gone for good? I wasn’t a regular at the site, other than to read Eric’s articles, but I did use the DevEdge sidebar a lot as it provided a really handy portal into the W3C HTML and CSS specs. Anyone know if such as thing exists elsewhere? I’m talking about a browser sidebar which lists all the HTML elements and attributes, all the CSS properties, and all the DOM 1 methods and links them to their respective W3C documentation.

I usually use the ZVON references to link through to the right part of the specs. They have DOM, CSS and XHTML references (plus others) available.

Rich, you may want to check out http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/mitchell/archives/2004/10/netscape_devedg.html which explains the current situation.

That was interesting. I only entered the URL, not any HTML. To be fair, the HTML tags appeared in the preview too, but I just figured it was broken :)

Phil – both the preview and the comment area are broken! Don’t know when or how. I’m working on it though :-)

Maybe it has been taken down for some sort of overhaul/maintenance on the site. I wouldn’t think that they’d redo the entire site again though, given it wasn’t done -that- long ago.
I hope it isn’t gone for good, I use it all the time for references about the DOM and such wonderful things.

Phil – fixed it the auto-linking of URLs of comments. Still don’t how or when it broke, but there we are (at the least the preview was accurate!)

I rescued the CSS, DOM, HTML and XSLT parts of the DevEdge sidebar. You can find it at http://www.ivanyeung.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/webdev/sidebar/

Ivan – Great job! Just what I was hoping someone had done :-)

Also found it on the wayback machine from Dec03 – might be too old, but I think it had been out of commission for a while anyway… just thought it might be useful to some…
